General information
Does an athlete’s eye color make a difference?
a. Athletes with lighter-colored eyes are generally more sensitive to bright light, making low transmittance lenses (darker tints) more comfortable and effective in high-glare environments. In contrast, those with darker-colored eyes typically have greater natural light tolerance, allowing them to benefit from higher transmittance lenses that permit more light through the filter while still providing critical contrast and clarity.
b. Each lens in our lineup is engineered in collaboration with Zeiss Optics—a global leader in precision optics. Each lens is not only certified for optical performance and clarity, but also incorporates advanced visual science to optimize contrast enhancement, depth perception, and target tracking. By selectively filtering specific wavelengths of light, Zeiss lens technology helps sharpen focus, reduce glare, and improve overall visual aptitude, allowing athletes to perform at their peak in any lighting condition.
Can you explain the lens coating science?
a. Our new ZEISS ICE technology delivers lenses that benefit from cutting edge engineering of coating science. A multi-layer coating application that improves a significant number of technical must haves in producing the best lenses available for the athlete.
b. The lenses benefit from principals that deploy the best of Hydrophobics and a proprietary Hydrophilic technology on the backside of the lens while harnessing a color enhancing topcoat with “IR”. The ICE technology delivers a performance benefit to the lens surface making it very slippery- Hence the name “ICE”. This solution does not allow water to properly adhere to the lens surface or oils. This slippery performance reduces fogging on the backside while also making the lens extremely easy to clean repelling oils and water.
c. ZEISS Pilla ICE with “IR” coatings also feature color enhancing abilities to amplify infused color pigments in the lens making the color filters more robust. The exclusive and proprietary spectral enhancements in each formulation are tuned to a specific wavelength. A turbo charging effect of our “IR” based platform making color extremely vivid and allows for a level of specificity in color precision. We can pinpoint color
lift (like our CMX or HC lenses science) and color fade for example in our neutralizing lens science. The composite of these technical coating solutions accelerates color lifting performance, reduces fogging, while making the lens very easy to clean.
d. In additional to these coating solutions on all current ICE “IR” Lenses, Pilla applies the highest performance ZEISS 7-LAYER Anti-Reflective coating to minimize any distortion created by reflecting light and splintering of light on the lens surfaces. The total package of our ICE “IR” coating platform is a significant improvement in lens performance from previous generations.

Why Pickleball?
a. Pickleball is more than a trend — it’s a fast-paced, precision-driven sport that demands sharp reflexes, keen focus, and elite-level visual clarity. At Pilla, we’ve spent decades helping world-class athletes see with more accuracy, contrast, and depth through our performance eyewear, built in collaboration with Zeiss Optics. Bringing that same world-class optical technology to pickleball was a natural next step.
b. Pickleball players face constantly changing lighting conditions — from indoor courts with glare to intense sun during outdoor matches. Our lenses are engineered to enhance contrast, sharpen ball visibility, and minimize distortion, giving players a true competitive edge. Whether you're tracking a fast volley at the net or reading spin mid-rally, Pilla lenses help you see the game faster, clearer, and with more confidence.
c. Just like we do in shooting sports, archery, cycling, and golf, we’ve applied sports vision science to elevate how pickleball athletes experience their game. Every lens is Zeiss certified, offering ultra-precise filtration and color tuning to maximize visual aptitude on the court.
Why pickleball? Because it’s a sport — and the athletes who play it deserve the same elite optics trusted by champions around the world. See Sharper. Play Better. Sustain Longer.
